About Us & You

At WHOKA, we are more than just a community; we are a family dedicated to living a life of purpose and sustainability. Our story began when we decided to leave the bustling city life behind during the COVID-19 pandemic, seeking a simpler and more intentional way of living. Over the years, we’ve transformed our property into a thriving homestead, complete with essential amenities like heat, water, and power. But this is just the beginning of our adventure.

Our vision extends beyond personal fulfillment; it encompasses a broader dream of creating a community where like-minded individuals can come together to share, learn, and grow. We’ve had the pleasure of hosting guests through programs like Workaway, which has inspired us to expand our efforts and build a lasting community. By joining us, you become part of a collective mission to foster sustainability, creativity, and connection. Together, we aim to build a future that respects the land and nurtures the spirit.

Community Principles

Our community is guided by these core values:

Trust, Transparency, and Honesty

We foster meaningful relationships through trust, open communication, and integrity. By speaking truthfully, sharing knowledge openly, and acting with sincerity, we create a community where authenticity thrives and connections are built on a solid foundation of mutual respect.

Acceptance and Equality

We celebrate the richness that diversity brings, embracing people from all cultures, backgrounds, and walks of life. Acceptance isn’t just about tolerance—it’s about actively valuing different perspectives and fostering relationships that are fluid, open, and respectful. At the heart of this is our belief in equality: every voice matters, and everyone deserves to be heard. We work collaboratively, ensuring that decisions are made inclusively and that each individual feels empowered to contribute. By honoring both our differences and our shared humanity, we create a community where belonging is not just possible—it’s inevitable.

Helping others

Our community thrives on mutual support. Whether it’s lending a hand during planting season, sharing knowledge about sustainable practices, or simply being there to listen, we believe in lifting each other up. Together, we create an environment where everyone feels valued and supported.

We share generously, empathize with others’ needs, and strive to give more than we receive.

Food Security and Sustainable Living Practices

We are committed to growing our own food using regenerative agricultural methods. This includes crop rotation, composting, and permaculture techniques that enhance soil health and biodiversity. By living off the land responsibly, we ensure food security for all members and minimize our environmental impact.

Living in harmony with nature through self-reliance guides us toward healing and balance.

Being Respectful, Open-Minded, and Motivated

Respect is at the core of our interactions. We celebrate diversity and encourage open-mindedness, allowing each individual to contribute unique perspectives and talents. Our collective motivation drives us to tackle challenges, adapt to change, and make meaningful contributions to our community and the planet.

We respect everyone, recognizing that our actions impact those around us.

A diverse land and community are vital. We welcome all wildlife, animals, and people.

Living a Simple Yet Meaningful Life

Our lives are grounded in simplicity and purpose. By reducing unnecessary distractions and focusing on what truly matters—relationships, nature, and creativity—we find joy in hard work and the beauty of everyday life. This intentional living fosters a deep sense of fulfillment.

Simple solutions are often the most effective. We aim to keep our work clear and uncomplicated.

Safety

Safety is the cornerstone of a thriving, functional community. It goes beyond physical well-being to encompass emotional, mental, and environmental security. When people feel safe, they are free to express themselves authentically, engage openly with others, and contribute fully without fear of harm, judgment, or exclusion. A secure environment fosters trust, encourages collaboration, and allows relationships to flourish.

In a community setting, safety also means looking out for one another—recognizing that the well-being of each individual impacts the collective. It involves creating spaces where people feel protected, supported, and respected, whether through thoughtful planning, clear communication, or mutual care. By prioritizing safety, we build a foundation where growth, connection, and resilience can take root and thrive.

Loving Animals and Respecting the Natural World

Animals are an integral part of our farm and our lives. From caring for livestock humanely to protecting wildlife habitats, we show love and respect for all creatures. We strive to live harmoniously with nature, understanding that we are a part of a greater ecosystem.

Let's Get Acquainted!

It can be  daunting to make the leap and move towards a simpler lifestyle and living with an unknown family. We think one of the best ways to get mutually acquainted is to sign-up for our Farmhand Program and get first-hand experience on the farm. This way we get to know each other to determine if there’s a mutual fit and interest.
